How do the desk sensors detect occupancy?

We us Passive InfraRed (PIR) sensors to detect when a desk is occupied. These PIR sensors are fine tuned detect the human body heat, which in turn sends a message to our system that the desk is occupied.

When a person is present at a desk, the sensor will continue to send occupancy data at 10 minute intervals confirming that someone is still there. We use this data to build our analytics on the average and peak rates of occupancy for that desk and others around the office.
